Dems blast push for English-only communication in Georgia

ATLANTA (AP) - Some Georgia Republican lawmakers need to require the state executive to keep in touch solely in English. But Democrats say forcing immigrants to make use of English for such things as the driving force’s license written examination would solely harm immigrants’ efforts to give a contribution to the group.

A Senate committee remaining week authorized GOP Sen. Joshua McKoon’s proposal to amend Georgia’s Constitution to make English the state’s authentic language. It’s now waiting for debate at the Senate flooring.

Democrats have already held two information meetings to denounce the invoice, which they name xenophobic and a “distraction” designed to pressure conservative electorate to the polls in November.

McKoon says the invoice isn't xenophobic, arguing that the immigrant inhabitants would if truth be told be higher served via being inspired to undertake English quicker.
