Sen. Heidi Heitkamp stated Tuesday that the problem of pensions will have to be in the overall spending bill lawmakers need to cross via Feb. eight to stay the federal government funded.
“When you look at rural issues and the industrial Midwest, which feel particularly left behind, this issue of pensions is critical. We’ve got to fix it,” Ms. Heitkamp, North Dakota Democrat, stated on CNN.
“We want this in the final passage of the bill that’s going to basically fund government,” she added.
Ms. Heitkamp helps the Butch Lewis Act backed via Sen. Sherrod Brown, Ohio Democrat, which might offer protection to employer-sponsored pensions for staff.
